Trek to Kasainath hill in Dodamarg, neighbouring Goa

GT Digital

Not too far away from the border of Goa-Maharashtra, lies a verdant hill called Kasaintah -- a trekkers' delight -- that allows one to soak in some of the most panoramic views of the countryside below.

On December 10, 2023, Eco Treks, a Goan trekking company, is organising a trek to this hill which lies at a distance of just three kilometres from the Goa border. The trek is categorised as medium to tough.

Eco Treks is organising this trek after a gap of more than two months. The plan to have this 15th trek to Kasainath got washed away due to Diwali on November 12 and then the cricket World Cup on November 19.

This is the 158th trek of Eco Treks ever since it started organising these expeditions. The company is also well-known for its Himalayan treks.

The hill can tire out those having no basic level of fitness.

Kasainath is a conical-shaped hill visible from afar. Though the distance to the top is not much, it is a challenging hill to climb and needs some level of fitness. The hill can tire out those who lack some measure of fitness.

Kasainath is blessed by Lord Shiva temple at the peak which attracts thousands of pilgrims during the holy month of Shravan and on Mahashivaratri day. Unlike full-day treks, this one can be completed in just half a day.

Although the walking distance is short, the slippery climb makes it difficult to walk hence proper walking or climbing shoes will be of good help. Participants are also requested to carry lots of drinking water.

On way to the top, trekkers can catch some panoramic views.

Kasainath is in Dodamarg taluka which comes under the Sindhudurg region of Maharashtra. It is surrounded by the lush green hills of the Western Ghats. Over the years, Dodmarg has become nature lovers' delight because of its rich biodiversity.

For the trek, Eco Treks has arranged special buses that will leave from Panjim (pick up point Heera Petrol pump) at 7 am and Mapusa Gandhi Circle at 7.25 am.

The rich biodiversity of the place is striking.

The fee per person is Rs 800, which covers travel, breakfast and lunch (veg and non-veg).

For booking and payment (cash only), those interested contact, Rajesh Rao 9833155713 (Porvorim), Durgadas Parab 9422445444 (Mapusa), Nitendra 8698757744 (Vasco), Sulekha 9764965195 (Margao).
