What could be the best way to pep you up in January and get yourself reinvigorated for the New Year 2023 ahead? If you have some extra energy to burn, then head to Kumthal village in remote Sattari and trek to Sonal on January 15.
This is the first trek of Eco Treks -- a trekking and adventure sports club -- in 2023, and it is their 10th visit to this beautiful place.
This is one of the easiest treks, which involves a hike through the jungle having the highest elevation of about 20 metres only. This 150th trek of Eco Treks begins at Kumthal and ends at Sonal winding through a dirt path and then into a lush green forest area of Valpoi, Sattari.
Kumthal is 71 km from Panjim by bus. After having breakfast on the way, trekkers will walk for about 5.6 km through a thick forest.
At the end of the trek, participants will be welcomed by a broad and free-flowing Mhadei (Mandovi) river, surprisingly with a maximum depth of 3.5 feet at this time of the year.
Eco Treks promises a fun and relaxing day to the participants, including children, even 5 years old to the elderly in the age group of 70 and above. In the past, the youngest participant was a three-month-old baby.
Trekkers will be allowed to swim in areas marked by the trek leaders. Swimming or venturing into areas, other than marked ones, can be fatal or suicidal.
After a good swim in the river, participants will be treated to hot lunch (vegetarian only) in a village house having cow-dung flooring. Before returning, once again participants will be served evening tea.
Special buses will leave from Panjim (Heera Petrol pump) at 7.30 am, Mapusa Gandhi Circle (7.50 am), Bicholim (8.15 am) and Sankhali (8.30 am).
