Goa, with its stunning beaches, vibrant culture and lush landscapes, beckons tourists to discover its charm. Whether you're hopping between picturesque coastal towns or venturing inland to explore hidden gems, the State offers a variety of transport options to make your stay both comfortable and enjoyable.

From zipping along on scooters to relaxing in taxis, let’s dive into the most popular ways to explore this tropical paradise.

1. SCOOTER/BIKE RENTALS

Most popular option: Renting a scooter or bike is a popular way to get around Goa, providing you with the flexibility and freedom to discover hidden gems and beaches.

You can ride wherever and whenever you like. If you’re in Panjim, then waste no time and head straight to the KTCL bus stand, where you will find several ‘Rent a Bike’ outlets waiting to help kickstart your Goa trip.

All you need is your driving licence, a copy of your Aadhar card or voter's ID, and you’re all set to rent a scooter (Fascino or Activa) and ride away into the Goan sunset.

RATES: Rs 300 – Rs 500 per day (depending on the season and type of vehicle selected)

WHAT YOU NEED: Driver's license, helmet (mandatory), ID proof

2. CAR RENTALS

Good for families: Car rentals are ideal for families or large groups that require extra space. You can opt for a self-drive car.

Depending on your preference, you can choose between a manual or an automatic transmission. At Viegas Car Rentals, you can select from a variety of options, including hatchbacks, sedans, MUVs, SUVs and more.

PICK ONE: A variety of four-wheelers are available on hire.

Rates: Rs 1,000 – Rs 2,500 per day for self-drive, higher for chauffeur-driven vehicles

What you need: Valid driver's license (for self-drive vehicles)

3. AUTO RICKSHAWS

Affordable for short distances: Autos are available in many cities, though they are less common nowadays. They can generally be found near markets, bus stands and at auto rickshaw stands, making them perfect for short trips within towns or between nearby beaches.

Rates: Fares are negotiable, starting from Rs 100 for short rides depending on the location. Also, they do not have a meter service.

4. TAXIS (PREPAID AND APP-BASED)

Airport and city transfers: Taxis are available for airport pickups, long-distance travel or day trips. Prepaid taxis can be booked at the airport, and private taxi operators are easy to find.

App-based services: Goa has app-based taxi services, like GoaMiles, which can be booked via smartphones.

Rates: More expensive than other options, Taxis charge around Rs 1,500 –Rs 2,500 for airport transfers (depending on the location) and Rs 2,000+ to hire for a full day.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT: The KTC bus service starts early in the morning.

5. LOCAL BUSES

Budget-friendly: Local buses connect towns and popular tourist spots at very low rates. While slow and not too comfortable, buses offer an authentic Goa experience. Government-run KTC buses are often air-conditioned and electric, meaning they are comfy and less polluting.

Rates: Rs 10 – Rs 50 depending on the distance to be travelled

Downside: Limited frequency and availability in remote regions

GO WITH THE FLOW: Ferry services connect islands with the mainland.

6. FERRY SERVICES

For river crossings: Ferries are available for crossing rivers, especially to islands like Divar. It's an exciting and unique experience connecting many Goan islands to the mainland.

Rates: Pedestrians and two-wheelers can travel for free, but there’s a fee for four-wheelers and usually starts from Rs 10 onwards, depending on the distance travelled and the size of the vehicle.

With a variety of transport options available in Goa, tourists can select the most suitable way to explore Goa according to their preferences and budget.
