If there is any opportune time to experience the forest in Goa in all its vibrant green hues, it is the monsoon season. It is a time when the nocturnal symphony of the forest reaches its crescendo.

With that in mind, the Goa Tourism Development Corporation and the Goa Forest Department are launching an exclusive overnight activity for wildlife and nature enthusiasts on July 13-14 with a promise of an immersive experience in the heart of Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the northeast of Goa.

RICH IN FAUNA: The Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary also houses a zoo where you can see some animals in a more controlled setting.

The event, lasting one day and one night, includes guided nature trails, a birding trip, and interaction with foresters. The main focus of this trip is to observe herpetofauna, including snakes, frogs, and geckos.

Participants will also have the opportunity to explore the forest, which is rich in wildflowers and bird species. Bondla is known for its birdlife, so a dedicated birding trip with experts is sure to be enriching for birdwatchers.

WILD & BEAUTIFUL: A leopard inside the zoo in its enclosure.

Also, the sanctuary boasts beautiful wildflowers, so this trip is perfect for those who appreciate botanical diversity.

The itinerary for the event starts on Saturday (July 13) with arrival and check-in at the dormitories, followed by an orientation about the forest and wildlife of Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary, which is an ice-breaking session.

TEEMING WITH LIFE: Despite being Goa's smallest wildlife sanctuary, Bondla is a treasure trove of biodiversity.

The session will be followed by a jungle trail with forest officials, along with discussions on nature and conservation, focusing on snakes and frogs.

On Sunday, July 14, participants will embark on a guided morning jungle trail, followed by a guided trail around the heritage site and Bondla Zoo.

The tour costs Rs 2,400 per person, which includes tea and snacks, dinner, morning tea, breakfast, lunch, and dormitory accommodation, or Rs 2900 per person for twin-sharing accommodation with all the same inclusions.

Transportation will depart from Mapusa Residency at 2.30 pm, Paryatan Bhawan, Panjim, at 3 pm and Margão Residency at 3.15 pm. Pick-up is available enroute.

Participants are advised to carry rainwear suitable for trekking in the forest, pen torches, drinking water bottles, and appropriate footwear. It is recommended to wear earth-coloured clothing for the trail.

For those interested in wildlife and nature, this overnight event definitely sounds worth checking out!
