The Sunaparanta Goa Centre for Arts in Altinho, which is housed in an old Portuguese mansion, is hosting a presentation and talk titled, ‘Diaspora at a Distance’. This event will be curated by Indian-American filmmaker, researcher and artist, Suneil Sanzgiri.

The filmmaker is currently working on his first feature-length work, which stresses on the bonds of solidarity between India and Africa that developed out of resistance to the Portuguese empire.

The talk has been scheduled for January 19, 2023. Sanzgiri’s work has been screened globally at events like, the International Film Festival Rotterdam, New York Film Festival, Hong Kong International Film Fest, True/False Film Festival, REDCAT, the Menil Collection, the Block Museum, Le Cinéma Club, and the Criterion Collection, and has won awards at BlackStar Film Fest, Open City Docs Fest, VideoEx, to name a few.

The artist will also be sharing his creative journey and talk about his short films that raise questions of history, memory, cross-continental solidarities in the Global South, and more.

Not forgetting, sharing insight on his trilogy of works, his inspiration behind it and the conceptual, technical and poetic currents in his films.

This will be followed by a conversation with the artist, which will be moderated by Leandre D’Souza.

The event will be a part of an ongoing exhibition, ‘Growing Like A Tree: Sent A Letter’, a curatorial debut by Bunu Dhungana and Sadia Marium Rupa, in partnership with Ishara Art Foundation.

An exhibit of photography, artist-books, texts, films and more, this exhibition will remain open to the public until May 15, 2023.
