ART RESIDENCY EXHIBITION
What happens as a result of an art residency, you might wonder. The outcomes are thought-provoking with diverse themes, media and creativity, which can be seen in such art shows.
Museum of Goa (MOG), Pilerne, presents an art exhibition, titled ‘I Can Only Show You What I See’, an art residency exhibition by artist Julie Ann Sheridan from January 20, 2024 to January 29, 2024.
Explore the complexities of land acquisition and environmental impact through Julie's multidisciplinary art at MOG.
The exhibition offers a unique opportunity for art enthusiasts to engage with the captivating work.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Julie Ann Sheridan is a multi-disciplinary artist and educator who lives and works in Wales, UK. She has exhibited and participated in residencies nationally and internationally, and currently is Artist in Residence at MOG.
Julie’s main focus is extended painting, how it challenges the historical flatness of traditional painting on canvas.
Her solo exhibition, ‘I Can Only Show You What I See’ explores the complex systems and structures of the socio-political and natural world, themes of environmentalism, geographies and borders (specific to Goa).
Symbiotic relationships between protected land, historic communities, food production, land sale and development are all represented through symbolic shape, form and colour.
She explains that the paint spills out beyond the edge of the traditional canvas, challenging historical restrictions and represents the accelerated destruction of our essential natural environments.
The exhibition is a reminder of the need for collective, creative action to address the challenges of our times.
