The yet-to-be-released documentary, The Beatles in India, directed by political journalist and television commentator, Ajoy Bose, and co-directed by Peter Compton, will be screened at Maquinez Palace, Panjim, on July 7, 2022.

The screening will be hosted by film critic, Sachin Chatte. The director of the film, Ajoy Bose, will also be present at the screening, followed by a Question and Answer session.

The film is a historical chronicle of the Beatles and India. With the help of rare archival footage, photographs, eye-witness accounts and expert comments, one can trace the journey of the rock band in India.

About the documentary

The documentary is based on the journey of the Beatles in India. The 92-minute documentary showcases the scenario of music and Indian culture in 1960s, and the band's influence on the youth in India.

It traces the journey of the English rock band, the Beatles, that travelled to Rishikesh in North India, in 1968, to take part in a Transcendental Meditation training course at the ashram of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. This visit followed the group's denunciation of drugs in favour of Transcendental Meditation and received widespread media attention.

Released on May 29, 2021, the UK Asian Film festival was honored at the closing ceremony of the New York Indian Film Festival and won the Audience Choice and Best Music Award at the UK Asian Film Festival.

The documentary has not been screened anywhere in India. It has made it to the ‘Thessaloinki Documentary Festival Official Selection 2021’.

About the director

Hailing from Bengal, Ajoy Bose has worked as a political journalist and television commentator. He has also released the books For Reasons of State: Delhi under Emergency, The Shah Commission Begins, Behenji as well as his latest book, Across the Universe: The Beatles in India.
