Goa’s Church of Santa Monica to echo music of Quarteto Chiado

If you are an aficionado of Western classical music, this is a concert you must attend. Not only will you partake in music performed by highly skilled musicians, but you will do so in the ambience of Goa’s Catholic heritage and history.

The Church of Santa Monica,  a heritage site annexed to the Museum of Christian Art, will provide the perfect backdrop to the musical prowess of the famed cello quartet Quarteto Chiado.

This special concert is presented by the Consulate General of Portugal in Goa, CLP-Camões, Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa (OPART) and Teatro Nacional de São Carlos (TNSC). Quarteto Chiado is one of Europe’s most renowned string quartets.

The cello quartet comprises members from the prestigious Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon.

The performance will take place on Friday, October 18, 2024, at the historic Church of Santa Monica, Old Goa, at 7 pm.

Quarteto Chiado are known to have enthralled their audiences worldwide, thanks to their mastery and bold experimental musical explorations.

With a repertoire that spans centuries, ranging from classical masterpieces to contemporary compositions, Quarteto Chiado are able to present their versatility and emotional profundity with much finesse.

Western classical music enthusiasts will enjoy a selection of works by some of the world’s most celebrated composers, including Rossini, Wagner, Bizét, Miller and more.

The event has been made possible through the support of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman, the Museum of Christian Art and Taj Cidade de Goa.

This is a rare opportunity to enjoy an enchanting evening of world-class music at one of Goa’s most historic sites. The concert is open to the public and promises all classical music lovers a night to remember.
