On the occasion of National Science Day, and as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Goa Science Centre and Planetarium, Miramar, along with the Ministry of Culture is organizing ‘Science Fiesta: An interface of Science & Society’ at the Goa Science Centre, Miramar, from February 25 – 28.

Programme schedule: Saturday, February 25, 2023

10 am: Inauguration by Director, NIO Goa, Prof Sunil Kumar Singh

11.30 am:

  • ‘Meet the Scientist’ with SK Jena from Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd, Mumbai, on the subject ‘Nuclear Power: Clean, Green and Safe’

  • ‘AstroBiology Workshop’ (for students of Class VII to Class X) with President, Association of Friends of Astronomy, Goa, Satish Nayak

2.30 pm: Science demo on ‘Vacuum & Atmospheric Pressure’ by GSCP

3.30 pm:

  • ‘Foldoscope making’ (for students of Class VIII to Class X) with Dr Anupama Harshal from the Indian Institute of Science Education & Research, Pune

  • Demo on ‘FTC Robotics’ by Team LEGO Goa AXIOM

5.00 pm: Demo on fibre optics by Dura-Line India Pvt Ltd

6.30 pm: ‘Astronomy Slideshow’ followed by ‘Sky Observation Programme’

  • ‘Astronomy Seminar’ (for students of Class VIII to Class X) by Association of Friends of Astronomy

  • ‘Foldoscope making’ (for members of Innovation Hub & Goa Science Centre) with Dr Anupama Harshal from the Indian Institute of Science Education & Research, Pune

2 pm:

  • Fancy Dress Competition on the theme ‘Recyclable material’ (for students of Class I to Class IV)

  • ‘Water Rocket Workshop’ (for students of Class VIII to Class X) by GSCP

4 pm: ‘Nature Walk’ by Arannya Environment Research Organisation, Goa

4.30 pm: Liquid Nitrogen Show by GSCP

5.30 pm: ‘Astronomy Slideshow’ followed by ‘Sky Observation Programme’

11.30 am: ‘Meet the Scientist’ with SK Jena from Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd, Mumbai, on the subject ‘Environmental Aspects of Nuclear Power’

12.30 pm: ‘Nuclear Quiz’ by Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd, Mumbai (for students of Class VIII to Class X)

2.30 pm: Workshop on ‘Vermicomposting & Jeevamrut’ by Dr Rahul Kulkarni of ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra

3.30 pm: Demonstration on ‘Fingerprinting & Forensic Science’ by Goa State Forensic Science Laboratory

  • Face painting competition on the theme ‘An Alien’ (for students of Class VIII to Class X)

11 am: ‘Meet the Scientist’ with Dr Pramod Maurya from NIO, Goa, on the subject ‘Marine Robotics: Helping hand for Scientists’

12 noon: ‘Meet the Scientist’ with Dr Bishnupriya Mohanty, Gomantak Ayurvedic Mahavidyalaya & Research Centre, on the subject ‘Unlocking Science for Health’

2.30 pm: Science demo on ‘Dry Ice’

3.30 pm: ‘Sir CV Raman Memorial Lecture’ followed by valedictory & prize distribution function
