This month is witness to a rare celestial event – the Venus-Jupiter conjunction, visible after sunset on March 1, 2023 and March 2, 2023.
The conjunction will be visible in the western sky, when the two dazzling planets will be at the closest approach, passing within a degree of each other. Enjoy the view of the two bright dots shining close to each other in the dusk sky.
WHAT IS A CONJUNCTION?
To put it simply, a planetary conjunction occurs when two or more planets appear close to each other in the sky.
A conjunction can include other celestial objects besides planets — for example, moons, asteroids, stars.
Some people confuse a planetary conjunction and a planetary alignment. A conjunction implies a shorter than usual distance between objects in the sky, while an alignment means that the planets line up in a row in the same area of the sky, as seen from the Earth.
