One of the oldest hotels in Goa is the Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), with their signature restaurants, patronized by tourists and local residents, alike. Adding to their portfolio of hotels in Goa, is Vivanta, a multi-storey boutique hotel in Miramar. The hotel which recently completed one year since its opening, is conveniently located away from the bustle of the city, yet in close proximity, for business travellers.
The elegance of the colour palette of the sixty cover restaurant, Mynt (name derived from the herb mint, spelt with a twist), on the first floor, is inspired by the luxurious laidback 1950s which resonates couture resort wear.
The low-key design of lighting, furniture, polished marble, brass and leather, juxtaposed with linen, jute, wood and rattan, with indoor potted plants, overlooks the grove of trees across the road, creating a laidback ambience, allowing the guests to traverse business and pleasure.
ON THE MENU
The menu lists a selection of vegetarian and non-vegetarian traditional Indian, Goan, Continental and Oriental cuisines. It also has the nutritional info listed below each dish for the benefit of the health conscious.
The wine list offers imported and domestic alcoholic beverages, refreshing mocktails and cocktails. From the conventional cocktails listed, I requested a singular cocktail, and Somnath, the bartender, whipped up a vodka-based cocktail with lemon grass, mint, cucumber and passion fruit, with a dollop of cashew honey to round off the lemony sour aftertaste. It was delectable!
Mild-flavoured starters pair best with cocktails. Their signature dish — Grilled Beetroot Tikka with Crunchy Peanut and Grilled Chicken With Mint Sauce paired well. From the salads listed, I opted for a Mediterranean Salad. Do try out the creamy Almond & Broccoli Soup.
For the main course, I had Aubergine Parmigiana (baked brinjal with parmesan cheese and tomato sauce), Nile Perch Steak (wrapped in a creamy mint-glazed caper butter), Sautéed Scallion and Potato Mash, Grilled Indian Lamb Chop with Parmesan Crust (with a sharp flavour of garlic sautéed spinach and mint), accompanied by Gratin Potato Mash and Julienne Vegetables, all of which were toothsome!
After a Dum Biryani with peas and Achari Macchi Curry, the delicate flavours of fennel, onion seed and fenugreek, was pretty much satiated.
I assert the dessert always compliments a meal. From the choice of Goan desserts served with coconut ice cream, Shahi Tukda for those with a sweeter tooth, I opted for the Serradura (also known as Portuguese Sawdust Pudding). This creamy, rich desert is served in small portions and its rich texture is distinctive. You can also check out the Chocolate Mousse – rich and creamy, light and fluffy, the bitter dark chocolate, sure hits the spot!
If you’re constrained for time, and need a quick bite, you have the choice of Pizza, Avocado and Feta Cheese Bruchetta, popular Indian chaats, Kathi Roll, and Grilled Toasted Sandwich, among others.
The splendid presentation and efficient service paired with the signature IHCL hospitality, enhances a fine dining experience.
