Sometimes, choosing where to dine can be difficult, especially if you're travelling to a new destination and are eager to try the local cuisine. However, one place in Goa that makes the pick simple is Smita’s Lake View Restaurant and Bar.

Started in 2020, the restaurant is quite a popular dining spot in Siridao, renowned for its scenic lakeside location and delicious seafood, featuring a variety of fresh, locally-sourced fish, prawns and other delicacies that reflect Goa's rich culinary traditions.

“I was always keen on cooking, and it’s been my passion for as long as I can remember,” reveals Smita Blaggan, the owner of Smita's Lake View Restaurant and Bar. Having received countless compliments on her food, especially the encouragement that came from her son, she decided to start a space of her own.

“My son, Rohit suggested that we start a restaurant together, and he even gave it my name to honour my love for cooking. That's how Smita's Lake View Restaurant and Bar came to be,” says Smita noting that the restaurant name also captures the essence of its lakeside location.

DYNAMIC DUO: Rohit Blaggan and his mother, Smita.

With the soft lighting and the soothing sounds of nature, you can't help but relax at the restaurant. The interior features a blend of rustic and contemporary décor, complementing the restaurant's lakeside setting and picturesque view.

The open-air design allows guests to enjoy the gentle breeze, and on rare occasions, even spot a crocodile in the lake.

The restaurant offers Goan, Indian, Chinese and Continental dishes, but their speciality is authentic Goan seafood. From flavourful seafood thalis, fish curries, seafood cutlets, fried fish, chicken Xacuti, masala crabs to prawn dishes, their curated menu showcases the best of Goan culinary heritage.

FLAVOUR FEAST IN A PLATE: The 'Chonak Thali' served at the restaurant will leave you wanting more.

“I personally cook the food at the restaurant and prepare all the major masalas ensuring they are perfect. I don't allow my chefs to make or modify them. I handle the preparation, and with the help of my team, we bring the dishes to life,” says the passionate Smita.

While the prawn dangar, fish thalis and prawn curry are among the complimented dishes, Smita recommends trying the tisryo cutlet, xinanyo, pomfret green masala fry, and black crab xec xec.

“Each of these dishes showcases Goan flavours and are a must-try if you’re visiting the restaurant,” she smiles.

KITCHEN MAGIC: Smita pursuing her passion.

And it’s her unwavering determination that has transformed the restaurant into the beloved place it is today. Despite challenges like the lockdown right after the restaurant’s launch, followed by the Tauktae cyclone, in 2021, which led to significant losses, Smita never gave up.

“The journey has had its ups and downs, but our perseverance has made all the difference,” she admits.

The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner but if you want to dive into some rava fried chonak, do note that the fish thalis are available only at lunchtime.

The bar offers a variety of beverages, including local Goan drinks, mocktails and cocktails. Additionally, the restaurant hosts lively karaoke sessions every Sunday.

WARM ELEGANCE: The cosy and inviting interiors of the restaurant.

So, whether you’re seeking a delightful meal amidst picturesque surroundings or food that has a mother's homely touch, Smita's Lake View Restaurant and Bar promises an exceptional experience.
