Bite into happiness at Porvorim's Fatwich Burgers

Passion projects are beautiful for a reason. They are a reminder of the things that we were brave enough to breathe life into and refuse to let go of, no matter the time, no matter the pace and no matter the distance between the aim and the goal.

Nestled in a tiny corner of Porvorim’s Chogm road is a little kitchen run by Ryan D’souza from Porvorim. The eyes claim that this food joint is hidden in plain sight but the nose knows just exactly where the aroma is originating from – Fatwich, a food joint selling burgers, sandwiches, wraps and more.

RYAN'S DREAM: Ryan started Fatwich in the year 2017 and is still going strong even today.

Seated on a plastic red chair outside his little eatery, Ryan, who sits in his brightly coloured oversized red tee shirt, says laughingly, “I am a foodie, I think you can tell by my size,”

Started back in 2017, Ryan founded Fatwich with no background in the food industry. For him, it was a pure passion project. Back then, “I found that Porvorim did not have any burger joints apart from the commercial chains such as Burger King and KFC,” he says. And even today, he is of the same opinion.

BURGER TALES: Burgers at Fatwich offer options in chicken, vegetarian and beef.

Focusing on quality and quantity has always been a number-one priority for Ryan, and the name ‘Fatwich’ which came from the idea of breaking up the words ‘fat’ and ‘sandwich’ grew on him faster than he could shake it off. And, that's how the name, Fatwich, came about.

And just as its name suggests, Fatwich serves a wide range of fat, juicy and mouth-watering burgers, sandwiches, wraps, momos, subs, fries and fried chicken which are all reasonably priced and generously homemade with a dash of love.

SANDWICH AT FATWICH: Loaded and crisp, sandwiches at Fatwich are a must try.

People don’t mind travelling miles for good food, “I am not very good with social media, so most of my customers are repeat and the new ones land here after hearing about Fatwich,” admits Ryan who enjoys fishing when he gets time off from the kitchen.

Adding to his pile of special memories, Ryan’s mind often wanders off to the time during the Covid-19 pandemic when all businesses took a hit. Although, he would rather forget the pandemic blues, there are some memories that he remembers vividly.

“I remember hearing people knocking on the half shutter of the shop and asking if we were open,” he reminisces. “The happiness on their faces when he said, "yes, we are open" was gratifying to say the least,” he adds.

Needless to say, amidst the uncertainty of the pandemic, the certainty of good food was a given as they proceeded home with parcels of crunchy burgers, and Ryan with a content heart.

TAKE A SEAT: Your one stop to say goodbye to your hunger rumble.

Passion projects are beautiful for a reason. And as for Ryan, every morning that he spends setting out the tables and chairs is rewarded when he sees familiar faces returning to Fatwich along with some faces he's never seen before, all for the promise of endless conversations over good food.
