Pascoal de Chicalim’s post-monsoon tiatr, Goenkaranchim Dukham, throws light on the current political scene across the state and nation and corrupt politicians. Corruption can lead to destruction of not only the career of a politician, but also his family.
The highlights include the fact that victorious candidates are hired by the ruling party and later dumped when their mission is fulfilled.
ABOUT THE TIATR
The story is about Justin (Justin), his wife Celina (Celina) and son Alister (Alister). On the other hand, there is Arnald (Arnald) with his son Roy (Effifanio Cabral), who is a police inspector and handicapped daughter Grachel (Grachel Mascarenhas).
After fruitful service as a panch and sarpanch of the village, Justin contests the assembly elections and wins. His wife and son are excited. Justin’s PA, Deseka (Maria Afonso) and the parish priest (Francis) also join in the celebrations.
Katap’pa (Augustine de Sanguem), who belongs to a party, drops in to wish Justin. But, there are ulterior motives behind his visit. Justin understands this and does not give in easily.
The last person to drop in to wish the elected representative is the CM (Teotonio Costa). He is there to rope in this newly elected candidate. As Justin is determined to continue in the opposition, the CM tries to blackmail him. The MLA finally bows down to pressure tactics.
Now, there’s Deseka, who is in love with PI Roy, and Arnald’s son Alister also eyes this girl. Roy finally ties the knot with Deseka. The new daughter-in-law receives all love and support from her father-in-law and sister-in-law.
A just man that he once was, Justin gets involved in corrupt acts. Due to addiction to alcohol, his only son Roy is trapped in a major mishap. PI Roy tries to arrest him, but political interference finds Alister out on the streets and the upright policeman is suspended.
Allegations and counter-allegations follow, and the minister’s name is tarnished due to his involvement with his PA Roy, and Deseka’s marriage hits the rocks. Check out what follows next in both the families.
BEHIND THE SCENES
As a minister, Justin has played his role with much comfort. Celina, Alister and Maria have extended good support to him. There is Arnald D’Costa who is apt as the caring father.
As far as comedy is concerned, there are new faces on stage this time, and comedian Sera, Afileo and Levon come together for some laughter pills.
Franco comes in as a priest and he apt in his role. There is Grachel Mascarenhas who has stepped for the first time on the commercial stage, and wins hearts as a differently-abled child.
Augustine de Sanguem as Katap’pa plays a good negative role. Teotonio Costa is perfect as the CM and delivers his dialogues well. Pascoal de Chicalim makes a cameo in the second half.
As far as comedy is concerned, there are new faces on stage this time, and comedian Sera, Afileo and Levon come together for some laughter pills.
But, their acts represent comedy staged for the zomnivhele fell during the Carnival festival. They definitely need to improve in order to entertain.
Maria Afonso comes on stage for the opening song, followed by several solos from Victor de Cunha, Levon, Teotonio, Rons and Celina. There are songs from Pascoal and Maria; and Victor and Celina which are worth listening to.
Other songs by Teotonio, Maria and Grachel; and Arnald D’Costa, Sera, Alister and Augustine are equally entertaining. There was no duo and choral in the drama.
Apart from new faces among the comedians, there are also new faces among the musicians offstage, namely Richard (trumpet), Ruffi (saxophone), Jovial (keyboard), Franco (bass) and Magny on the drums.
They have provided good music, but could have improved for the better. The stage sets are by Anthony de Ambaji and Anvil has taken care of the lights.
