Tiatr review: Lenten show, ‘Hanv Tuzo, Tum Konnancho?

Fr Michael Fernandes’ Lenten production, ‘Hanv Tuzo. Tum Konnancho?’ has celebrated its golden jubilee

Mario Pires

Hanv Tuzo. Tum Konnancho?, a Lenten show penned by Fr Michael Fernandes and directed by Agnelo D’Souza, throws light on the gift of life and abortion. It also speaks about the vocation to priesthood and how valuable it is in today’s society when priests have become a rarity.

At the onset, you are invited to the Garden of Eden, where Adam (Fanuel D’Cruz) and Eve (Jane Colaco) are enjoying God’s unique creation.

'Hanv Tuzo. Tum Konnancho?' is a Lenten show, penned by Fr Michael Fernandes and directed by Agnelo D’Souza

As the couple enjoys the blissful time together, the devil, in the form of a snake, makes his royal entry and begins to tempt Eve with false promises.

Eve is easily tempted and she also drags her spouse, Adam, into temptation. Due to the original sin, God punishes the devil and the first parents.

Seby is convinced and wishes to save his wife instead of the unborn. But, Mary is adamant and greatly desires to save her child in the womb. After the operation, the mother and child are, both, saved.

The couple christen the newborn as Jesus. The child grows and Jose educates him with the hope that he will carry forward his business.

ABOUT THE TIATR

Jose (Normandez) is into business. His spouse, Mary (Mita), is pregnant after 12 years. Jose prays, with faith in his heart at the foot of a cross, seeking his wife’s safe delivery.

Mary is rushed to the hospital and Jose is tense. The doctor (Seby), treating Mary, informs Jose that the case is complicated and the survival of, either, mother or child is possible.

The devil (Fr Michael) comes and tempts Seby. He convinces him that if the mother survives, then there are possibilities of another pregnancy and child. But, if the mother expires, then he will doom for life.

Jesus encounters Shenaya (Tracy). The latter is madly in love with the former. Jesus discloses his plans to her of joining priesthood. And, Shenaya is depressed.

What follows next, as a priest, is worth watching during the second half of the Lenten show.

BEHIND THE SCENES

The trials and challenges of a priest are beautifully depicted on stage. Will he be able to cope with all the crosses of his priestly life? Or, will he give up? Who are the ones responsible for the thorns and mountains in Fr Jesus’ life and ministry?

Hanv Tuzo. Tum Konnancho? has a message for all during the season of Lent. With Biblical scenes entwined in the play, it also invites viewers to reflect and mend one’s life for the better.

Each of the artistes on stage has put up a fine act. There are commercial tiatrists and amateurs roped in, and everyone has played their respective roles to perfection.

Comedian Kenny and Agnelo join hands for some comical acts and the comedy is well balanced in between the acts.

The songs in the form of solos, duos, duet, quartets and choral, rendered by various singers, have a story to relate and a message, too. The musicians, which includes two violinists, have provided good music, including the background score, throughout the show.

With invitations from various parishes across Goa, this Lenten show was successful in celebrating its golden jubilee.
