‘Paichem Pap, Dhuvechi Zap’ is a tiatr about a businessman who has little time for his family

Mario Pires

St Rock High School, Tollecanto, Velim, presented their tiatr, Paichem Pap, Dhuvechi Zap on the fourth day of the first All Goa Inter-School Tiatr Competition at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, recently.

ABOUT THE TIATR

Paichem Pap, Dhuvechi Zap, penned and directed by Fr Doel Dias, is the tale of a businessman Vilton (Ashlon Simoes), who works in a pharmaceutical company. Back home, he has his wife Ivy (Skyla Fernandes) and only daughter, Sanya (Ria Rodrigues).

Vilton is in the business of preparing new medicines and earns well to support his family financially. Although he keeps his daughter happy by providing money, as and when she wants, he hardly has time for his family.

Sanya is mostly out of the house, enjoying life with her friends. Ivy, as a housewife, is worried about her daughter, but the father focuses his attention more on his business.

One fine day, Sanya faints in the house and the truth, behind the episode, unveils. The contraceptive pills, prepared by Vilton in his company, were consumed by Sanya to avoid pregnancy following an affair with her boyfriend.

Vilton was also found to be responsible for putting an end to the growth of the family, initially.

BEHIND THE SCENES

The subject, picked up for this children’s tiatr, did not appear to be related to children. Instead, it was inclined more towards the college-going students.

All the artistes on stage played their respective roles with conviction and enthusiasm. Ashlon and Skyla as guardians, and Ria as their daughter, looked confident in their respective characters and dialogue deliveries.

In the second half, Ria’s presentation was outstanding. Making a cameo, Clisha Fernandes, as a friend, played her minor role well.

In the comic acts, there was Mathew (Joylan Fernandes) as the doctor, and Rozaline (Swizel Fernandes) and team who tried to entertain with their jokes.

There was enough dose of comedy in the play. All the other children in the supportive cast gave a good presentation.

In the singing section, there were songs on different subjects in all categories. Most of the songs carried one common chorus after three different stanzas. Songs, Lamani and Fu Bai Fu were impressive.

Live music was provided by Senon de Souza (trumpet) and his team – Fr Lin (saxophone), Sammy Braganza (trombone), Neville Cardozo (keyboard), Cruzendo (bass) and John de Maddel (drums) – and was appealing to the ears.

Jess Fernandes and Anvil Fernandes worked on the stage set designs and they were presentable. Sunita Pinto and Cerina Fernandes laid their hands on the costumes and make-up respectively.

The background music was provided by Fr Doel Dias, while Saude Fernandes assisted in the execution of light effects. Unfortunately, the display of multi-coloured lights for renditions was distracting not only the singers, but the viewers as well.
