IFFI 2022: The festival's opening film 'Alma and Oskar' wowed the audience

The opening film for the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) was the Austrian film, 'Alma and Oskar', directed by Dieter Berner

The Austrian film, Alma and Oskar, which is based on a real-life story, was screened at the opening of the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) at Goa, this year.

Speaking on the occasion, the director of the film, Dieter Berner, said that the film was based on the Austrian poet, playwright and teacher, of the1900s, Oskar Kokoschka who was also an upcoming painter who had created Alma as a model.

"Alma was this strong, intelligent and challenging woman. She had a fear and that brought the two on the path of self-destruction," he said.

He also spoke about how Alma and Oskar was a testament to the power and perils of their passion.

The cast and crew of the film were present at the screening and were presented with momentos.

Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting and Youth Affairs & Sports, Anurag Singh Thakur, who was present on the occasion, said, "The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) has become a platform for film directors from all over the world to showcase their work."

"I am sure, India will become a hub for co-production, post-production, film shooting and also for the technology partners," he added.

Thakur also added that the festival aims to become bigger and bigger every year, and this year, IFFI will screen over 280 films from more than 79 countries, which speaks volumes about what has been done so far.
