“The way to filmmaking is simple. It begins with doing two years of engineering,” he said. This made Varun Sharma cackle aloud and sent waves of laughter across the auditorium.

The 53rd International Film Festival of India conducted a session in conversation with actor Varun Sharma and director Mrighdeep Singh Lamba.

The session was moderated by Himesh Mankad, and the topic of discussion was “How to carve your niche”. The entertaining duo share a close bond and shed light on their comedy film series - the Fukrey franchise.

Speaking about their journey in the Hindi film industry, Mrighdeep Singh Lamba and Varun Sharma spoke about how they have carved a niche in the comedy genre.

They also spoke about how the genre of comedy is a difficult space to be in because jokes are subjective, and there will always be a section of society that may not understand the joke. It is difficult to please every section of society.

The jolly, Varun Sharma speaking to the crowd.

“I never thought I could do comedy,” said Varun. “It was Mrighdeep Sir’s faith and trust in me that made me realise that people are smiling and laughing because of me,” he added.

Mrighdeep attended film school and went on to become the director and make the series of films that make us all laugh today. As for Varun, he graduated in filmmaking and was also a part of the theatre.

Today, we have two humorous individuals who have blessed the Indian film fraternity with their work.

The duo entertained the audience with their humorous narration.

“I’ve tried doing other genres but, somehow, I always come back to comedy,” said Mrighdeep.

The session ended with unique questions and wholesome fan moments that ended in smiles. Varun and Mrighdeep cleared queries asked by the audience and had a fun and interactive session.

“Waking up in the morning and doing something that you love is success in itself. Being successful in your daily chores is success for the day, and what is life, if not a series of days,” smiled Varun.
