"Actors put aside their personal issues and problems to deliver a happy character," said acclaimed Indian actor, Pankaj Tripathi, who is known for popular web series such as Sacred Games, Criminal Justice and Mirzapur.
During the masterclass, ''The Craft of Cinema – Character Development' on November 21, 2022, Tripathi spoke about his career and life struggles, and narrated how these struggles have made him a down-to-earth person.
"Over the years, I have learnt how to gain control on my emotions and the process is still on. I am still learning," he added.
GREY CHARACTER
Speaking about the OTT platforms, he said these were encouraging filmmakers to work on every character and also bring to light characters that go unnoticed. He said, "I never overshadow any character. No matter what, I always want to work as a team and help other characters stand out."
LIP-SYNCING NOT THE TRUTH
He also spoke how Hindi makes him comfortable and is the language of his choice when it comes to working in films. "I can work in other language films but lip-syncing will not do justice to the role. It will not be the truth and I as an actor will not be satisfied," said Tripathi, much to the applause of the audience at the Maquinez Palace.
During the masterclasses, the audiences put forth several questions to the actor and what was actually interesting to watch was how most directed to the actor were based on his simplicity despite being a popular star.
He also thanked his acting and theatre teachers and said that they have contributed immensely towards his growth as an actor.
THE STRUGGLE OF AN ACTOR
For nearly eight years, Tripathi struggled to land a role in a film, but once the he overcame hardships, there was no looking back. After the struggle phase was over Tripathi started signing films and even today he has no time for his own self. "The struggling phase in one's life is not actually a struggling phase, but it is about learning and knowing self," said Tripathi, while narrating about his first break.
FIRST BREAK
For Tripathi, the first break came when he was sleeping. Interestingly, the actor shared how the casting crew was hunting for another actor when they discovered him. "I was sleeping and the casting people were looking for the actor, that is the time they said that there is a man who is sleeping and makes funny jokes, and rest is history, " Tripathi told the audience at the 53rd International Film Festival of India in Goa.
The actor enlightened the audience with his knowledge and love for acting. He ended with some famous dialogues from his films and series that are popular.
