Goa tiatr Review: Tiatr ‘Chor’

Mario Pires

The tiatr, Chor, penned by comedian Agostinho Temudo and directed by comedian Joyel, carries a fine storyline and sleek direction. The story flows smoothly on stage, thus enhancing the curiosity of the viewers, and there’s an equally good dose of suspense draped around it.

The story is about Barreto (Pradeep Naik) and his two children Shane (Pascoal Rodrigues) and Sylvi (Mita), who reside with him. Barreto is an honest man serving in a private firm ‘Real Builders’. He has only three months of service, before retirement.

ABOUT THE TIATR

Barreto’s only son, Shane, is educated but unemployed. His daughter, Sylvi, though married to Cajie (Benny de Aldona), puts up at her father’s residence as she did not carry enough dowry.

Her mother-in-law demands a car from her and she keep asking her father to fulfill it.

Barreto seeks Rs 10 lakh from his employer, Lisa (Cia), in order to fulfill his children’s demands. But, his boss is reluctant out of fear of her employee being unable to repay the big loan after retirement.

One fine day, while on duty, Lisa tells Barreto to deposit Rs 10 lakh in the bank. He obliges, but it is too late in the day to deposit the amount.

On the way, he meets Carlos (Reggie), a peon serving in the same firm. The peon advises him to keep the briefcase containing the cash in a safe place at home and deposit it the following morning.

Upon returning home, Barreto narrates the story about the cash to Shane and Sylvi. The following morning, the briefcase disappears from the cupboard.

Now, who stole the briefcase and the cash from the cupboard? Is it an outsider or those residing in the house? Who is the culprit? Will s/he be caught and booked for theft? The second half of the drama takes the tale to its climax.

BEHIND THE TIATR

As an honest and upright guardian and employee, Pradeep Naik stands tall in his acts. He is supported by Pascoal Rodrigues and Mita. Cia is perfect as the head of ‘Real Builders’ firm. Francisco portrays himself as the police inspector and is assisted by comedian David as the constable.

As peon and advocate, Reggie is seen in a double role. Benny de Aldona makes a cameo as the spouse of Mita.

For laughter pills, comedian Joyel takes Myron, David, Fiona and Defny with him and they all try their best to tickle the funny bone of the spectators. Their comical acts are worth the watch on stage.

For some thought-provoking songs, Francisco steps on stage for the opening song, followed by solos from Pascoal Rodrigues, Benny de Aldona, Mita, Daniel and Myron. There are also renditions from David and Fiona; Cia and Fiona; and Myron and Joyel.

Two songs, namely by Francisco, David, Joyel and Myron; and Benny, David and Francisco receive encores from the audience.

The musicians offstage – Queter, Edrol (trumpet), Matias (keyboard), Casmiro (bass), Anicet (drums) – have backed all the singers on stage.

The stage sets have been handled by Anthony de Ambaji, while Ratna has taken care of the lights.
