Conflicts between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law have long prevailed in Goan homes. And, to add fuel to the fire, a third party would often step in and then there would be more chaos in the entire family, resulting in divorce.
Comedian Sally’s tiatr, Hem Ghor Tujem Nhoi, is a family melodrama with the usual story of clashes between mother, daughter-in-law and sister-in-law.
ABOUT THE TIATR
The story is about a rich woman (Dolly), who has two children, Aaron (Alijoy) and Melba (Alina). The youngest, daughter Melba, has tied the knot with Denzil (Mario), but their marriage has already hit the rocks.
On the other hand, there’s a cobbler (Pascoal Rodrigues), who earns his living doing petty jobs, and he supports his only daughter Melanie (Malita) financially.
Now, Aaron is in love with the poor girl, Melanie, and one fine day, he proposes to her.
Regarding her family background, Aaron keeps it a secret. Soon after Aaron’s marriage, Melba comes back home. She vows never to return to her husband.
Trouble sets in on account of Melba’s presence in the house and mental, physical torture is expected. Mother and daughter join hands in order to torture Melanie.
Initially, Melanie gets moral support from her husband. But, after he leaves home on an urgent assignment, there are continuous conflicts between the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law.
Is Aaron aware of all that’s happening in the family? On his return home, will Aaron stand by his suffering wife? Or, will he be in favour of his mom and sister?
BEHIND THE TIATR
The subject tackled by comedian Sally in his tiatr, Hem Ghor Tujem Nhoi, is an old one, and already touched upon by several directors in the past.
It is sad to note that when some of our noted tiatr directors run short of new concepts, they naturally tend to harp on the same old topic of the past. It is like pouring old wine in new bottles and serving it to the audience again and again.
There’s a fine presentation on stage by all the commercial artistes. Pascoal Rodrigues and Dolly display ample talent as guardians from two different families and backgrounds. They are supported by Alijoy and Malita.
Mario makes a cameo in the concluding scene. Alina stands out in her negative role and she delivers it in style.

For laughter riot, there’s comedian Sally with Samenca, Aveena and Preet, and the foursome carry a good dose of laughter pills.
For the listening pleasure of the audience, Alijoy makes an entry for the opening song. There are solos from Jr Reagan, Evaristo de Arambol, Alina, Peviola and Pascoal Rodrigues.

The musicians offstage – Esben (trumpet), Nazareth (saxophone), Kelvin (keyboard), Shelton (bass), Manuel (drums) have provided good live music. Kelvin has also assisted with the background music.
A political solo from Saby de Divar and a duet from Alina and Saby de Divar receive good response from the audience. A trio and a quartet went amiss in the show.
The stage sets are by Anthony de Ambaji, and Romeo has assisted with the lights.
