In April, there were rumours of the Game of Thrones-fame actor Emilia Clarke joining the superheroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Emmy-nominated actress officially confirmed her role in the upcoming Secret Invasion series for Disney+.

The actress will be joining a cast that includes Samuel L Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn, who'll be reprising their roles as Nick Fury and Talos, along with Kingsley Ben-Adir, Olivia Colman, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, and Carmen Ejogo. The series is an adaptation of the 2008 crossover published by Marvel Comics.

The actor appeared on the show to promote her new comic series, ‘M.O.M.: Mother of Madness’ which she has co-written with Isobel Richardson and Marguerite Bennett. During the conversation with Fallon, she was unable to reveal anything more than the fact that she is a part of the upcoming miniseries and its name. The extreme secrecy of Marvel kept her from saying anything more.

She told Fallon, “The first people I spoke to from Marvel were their security team,” Clarke told Fallon. “And I am convinced... there is a man outside my house, there’s been a car parked there for a long time, and I swear to God, it’s undercover. They schooled me, and I don’t know what to do.”

The project marks Emilia’s first time in the Marvel universe. The US-based entertainment website, Variety, broke the story, stating the actress was in final negotiations. The original Secret Invasion storyline involved a group of Skrulls — the green-skinned, shape-shifting aliens seen in Captain Marvel — infiltrating and eventually invading Earth by secretly transforming into and replacing many famous Marvel superheroes.

The comic series featured crossovers from The AvengersThe Fantastic FourYoung Avengers, and Thunderbolts, though there is no telling who or what may appear in the upcoming Disney+ series. Clarke will be an addition to the list of Game of Thrones actors to join the MCU.
