2 Goan photojournalists to be felicitated on World Photography Day

Photographers Barnabe Dias Sapeco and Tukaram Vaghu Fadte will be honoured for exemplary services rendered over the years

On the occasion of World Photography Day, the Photo Journalists Association Goa (PJAG), in collaboration with the Department of Art and Culture, Goa, will felicitate 2 veteran photojournalists on August 19, 2023.

Photographers, Barnabe Dias Sapeco and Tukaram Vaghu Fadte, will be felicitated in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the field of photography in Goa.

Veteran photojournalist, Barnabe Dias Sapeco, from Panjim, has played a significant role in Goa’s media scene during his career, which spans more than two decades.

A committed and fearless journalist, Sapeco has been associated with well-known publications including Metro Times, Herald, Navhind Times, Navprabha, Times of India, India Today, Goa Today and Gomantak Times, and has even been assaulted in the line of duty.

With over 30 years of professional experience, 82-year-old Tukaram Fadte from Sanquelim, runs Sai Prasad Photo Studio, and has adapted to evolving photographic technologies throughout his career.

Both photojournalists will receive a citation, shawl, coconut and cash award on the occasion.

Art and Culture Minister, Govind Gaude; Rajya Sabha MP, Sadanand Shet Tanavade; Director of the Department of Information & Publicity, Dipak Bandekar; Director of the Department of Art and Culture, Sagun R Velip will grace the function.

As part of the World Photography Day celebrations, PJAG is also organising an exhibition featuring the works of 23 photographers from different media organisations in Goa. The exhibition will remain open to the public for two days ie August 19 & 20 (10 am to 6 pm), and will be a celebration of visual storytelling and journalistic excellence.

During the event, PJAG will also declare the winners of the state-level photography contest for school students and the general public.
