Traya Natural Health Centre, in Dona Paula, was incepted in 2014 by Goa’s  well-known Salgaocar group with a view to extending various holistic treatments under one roof.

Derived from the Sanskrit word, Trya (meaning ‘three’) their logo represents the universal tri gun, indicating a balance of body, mind and nature; and to a certain extent, the soul.

AN ANCIENT MEDICINE

Ayurveda (Ayur meaning ‘longevity’; veda meaning science of life) is the Indian system of natural and holistic medicinal healing which dates back 5,000 to 6,000 years. It has been recorded in the Vedas as God’s gift to mankind, communicated to the saints and sages through deep meditation.

Around 300 BC, Charaka, an Ayurveda physician, sometimes referred to as the ‘Father of Indian Medicine’, added an easy-to-understand compilation of Agnivesa Samhita, re-naming it Charaka Samhita.

Traya Natural Health Centre offers a host of treatments, from naturopathy to reiki and insomnia to obesity

Around 1500 BC, the use of Ayurveda increased as schools of physicians and Dhanvantri (school of surgeons) originated. Chinese, Tibetan, Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Afghan and Persians came to India to learn Ayurvedic principles.

Divided into eight specific branches of medicine, it became popular in Europe, forming the foundation of European tradition in medicine. Paracelsus, the father of modem Western medicine, adopted Ayurveda in his practice, in 1600 AD, and its popularity has increased by leaps and bounds. And, along with proper diet and lifestyle, it helps in maintaining a balance in the body and mind.

Dr Sujal Patil, who is the Chief Medical Officer and Director of Operations at Traya, obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery from the Gomantak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, Shiroda, in 2009. She joined Traya as a consultant in 2014, and was promoted to CMO finally Director in 2016.

“I was always inclined towards Ayurveda, as my father was in the field of medicine, which motivated me to pursue the same. At Traya, we use only natural ingredients and believe that sometimes the body needs a nudge to heal without side effects. Our objective is prevention and maintenance of positive health and curing the problem,” she states.

Dr Sujal has published numerous articles on health and wellness in the local publications, and holds health talks and workshops around Goa.

HEALING THE TRAYA WAY

Starting out as a premium centre, in an up-market area, there was a misconception that treatment is expensive. Among the initial challenges Sujal faced was a lack of awareness about the healing modalities.

So, she started awareness talks, workshops, rallies and camps in various institutions, work places, residential areas, etc. Rather than printed and digital media, it was word of mouth that gradually drew people.

“Our challenge is convincing patients about the difference in modern medicine and natural modalities. And, unless they are mentally attuned, it becomes difficult to see results, as actual healing is done by the body, and your lifestyle, not a prescription on a notepad,” she affirms.

The centre has 4 treatment rooms, with attached steam baths, a yoga studio, two consultation rooms, six specialized permanent consultants, and visiting consultants. The clientele consists of upper middle class Goans and many overseas patients, who visit Traya periodically.

Post the Covid pandemic, Traya has incepted a Senior Citizen Pain Management program in an affordable price range.

Consultations at Traya start @ ₹ 400 and treatments last from 3 to 12 months
